TurnItIn
TurnItIn is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention web-based service. When a paper is submitted, instructors have the ability to check the paper against TurnItIn’s massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.
TurnItIn Features
Plagiarism Detection: Assign a written assessment through Blackboard and check all papers for plagiarism quickly against TurnItIn’s database, including, if desired, a repository of past works students have submitted.
View Similarity Report: A visual gauge of a percentage of the student work that is similar to others work, ie- copy and paste without including quotations, drafts submitted of same paper, student name if utilizing TurnItIn often.
Document Flags: While not necessarily an indicator of a problem, flags are given for inconsistencies seen in a normal submission. Such as detect hidden text (often used to inflate word count), replaced characters (an attempt to hinder similarity detection by replacing characters with similar looking ones from different alphabets) etc.
TurnItIn AI Detection
TurnItIn has a feature that detects if a paper was written by an AI generator, such as ChatGPT. The AI Writing indicator has been added to the generated report will show an overall percentage of the paper that may have been AI-generated. Watch the video below to learn more.
